Some of his reviews can be very questionable at times. He actively makes misleadingly inflammatory videos of certain subjects, such as him explaining why it should be ok to pirate Nintendo's games. He loves loves loves diving head first into controversial shitstorms like the whole GamerGate flame war and made some "strong" opinions. It's like he knows he's going to set people off, then once said audience is angry, he immediately steps back, then positions himself as some kind of beacon of moral superiority, adopting the whole " woe is me these crazy fanboys are attacking me" victim thing, effectively delegitimizing any counter criticism towards him, while smiling at the camera with a nod and a wink. The problem is how he frames those opinions with an air of self-entitled smugness. I think we can all agree that Jim having an opinion isn't the problem. I don't know.īut there's just something about Jim that just rubs people the wrong way. Probably because Yahtzee maintains a sense of self-awareness or puts his comedy first. Most of the internet adores Yahtzee's Zero Punctuation series and even agree with him a lot. Jim like any person has opinions, that's perfectly fine. But I genuinely 100% believe that a part of him purposefully arouses vitriol to unironically elicit these reactions. I think most of us are very well aware that being the "hyperbolic asshole internet guy" is his whole schtick, yeah we get that it's all a satirical act. Now let me preface this by saying that I like a lot of Jim's videos, especially ones where he generally calls shit out like anti-consumer practises and whatnot.īut the thing is (and I don't expect everyone to agree with me on this). The reaction to ProJared's review is not even remotely comparable to Jim's infamous BotW 7/10. So I don't get why this was even worth bringing up. Quite frankly, if anyone can achieve that level of a response, then you've done a fantastic job. Honestly, right now over 91% of Jared's like/dislikes are positive. UC4 fanboys called the reviewer a "Feminazi" for giving Tomb Raider a higher score and not only tried to get her review pulled down, but also get the reviewer herself fired. Just look at IGN's Uncharted 4 review and you'll see that this isn't just a "Nintendo" problem. I don't understand the problem here, is that not literally the case with like 99% of all Youtube game reviews? Or really just the entertainment industry in general? You simply cannot please everyone. Most of his comments are suportive as Always, but 1/9 of the comments are just being angry at him because he gave a 8/10. Ok, this is a lot so please bare with me here.
